Porsche Boxster Prototype by Maisto

Porsche Boxster Prototype by Maisto

First seen in 1993, this concept car was to become the new Porsche Boxster. In fact, most knew at the time that it was indeed a prototype for the forthcoming Boxster. It had a number of great styling touches including oversized ventilation fans in the interior and a very curvaceous rear deck, especially behind the seats. It also had very short overhangs front and rear.

The production version of the car, introduced in 1996, was a bit of a let down compared to this car, as much of the design had been toned down. The interior was much more ordinary, and the car was longer front and rear to enable it to comply with crash worthiness legislation. You can see more about the production car here.

Maisto make this model, and it one of their earlier efforts. The doors are quite a loose fit, and hang open very easily. The front lights look very plasticky and there isn't much underbody detail. There is no engine detail at all. Not a great model overall, hence a low rating of 3/10.
